Hydrogen plant process monitoring system

Home » Sectors » Hydrogen plant process monitoring system

The future of energy lies in renewable hydrogen: a versatile and non-polluting energy vector produced from renewable sources, from which clean energy can be obtained with high yields and zero CO2 emissions. Renewable hydrogen represents the future of energy generation, focused on industrial decarbonisation and climate neutrality.

At Envira, we understand the complexity of processes involving hydrogen and, thanks to our experience, we can design and offer specific and certified process instrumentation solutions for each stage: analysers, gas chromatographs, flowmeters, pressure gauges or temperature probes, among others.

In this way, our systems are adapted to the different hydrogen processes in all their variations: green, grey, blue, turquoise and pink.

Applications & Uses

H2 Production

H2 Production

We offer specific solutions and instrumentation for both the SMR process in HyCO plants and for the production of renewable hydrogen using a PEM, alkaline or SOEC electrolyser system, monitoring the quality of the ultra-pure water.

Purity Measurements

Purity Measurements

Our instrumentation ensures the purity and uniform composition of H2 in its production and distribution for use in fuel cells, according to ISO 14687:2019, EN 17124:2018 and SAE J2719.

Decarbonisation

Decarbonisation

The substitution of fossil fuels by green H2 in industry makes it possible to eliminate CO2 emissions, but this requires instrumentation to control the quality, safety and optimisation of production processes.

H2 Liquefaction

H2 Liquefaction

Liquid hydrogen is easier to store, transport and handle, but its conversion requires extremely low temperatures and hydrogen purity at the input to the process, which requires specific instrumentation.

Renewable Hydrogen Fuel

The use of hydrogen from renewable sources as a raw material in various industrial sectors is a tool for industrial decarbonisation, as it allows a significant reduction of CO2 in processes such as

  • Ammonia and methanol production in the chemical industry.
  • Desulphurisation and hydrotreating of fossil fuels in refineries.
  • Replacing coal in direct iron reduction (DRI) in steel production.
  • Production of sustainable synthetic fuels in combination with captured CO2.

AIP Fuel Cells

Hydrogen generation from bioethanol or ethanol is a promising technology for use in Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) hydrogen fuel cells, a method particularly useful in applications such as submarines where the ability to operate without access to outside air is a significant advantage.

At Envira we have a wide range of process specific instrumentation including gas analysers, oxygen detectors, pressure and temperature gauges and even air quality monitors to detect fugitive emissions to the environment.

Hydrogen in Industrial Applications

Hydrogen in Industrial Applications

The complexity of the hydrogen industry requires a range of very specific analytical instruments and processes. As official partners of internationally recognised brands such as Siemens, Teledyne and AMA Instruments, we are able to offer comprehensive solutions for each sector.

Hydrogen Process Control and Analysis

Process instrumentation specific to the industrial use of hydrogen includes

Gas analysers for green hydrogen:

  • Maxum Chromatograph ed. II, for trace analysis of CO, N2 and H2S down to detection limits of < 100 ppb.
  • Siprocess GA700 with paramagnetic, NDIR and thermal conductivity (TCD) sensors
  • SITRANS TDL laser spectroscopy analyser

SITRANS FC, MAG 3100, MAG 6000 I flowmeters and the high accuracy SITRANS FS 320 ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeter

P320/420 pressure transmitter with gold-plated diaphragm.

SITRANS TS500 and TS300 non-invasive temperature sensors.

Certified process instrumentation

Hydrogen is highly flammable and can form explosive mixtures in air at certain concentrations, so for both operational safety and regulatory compliance, the renewable hydrogen industry requires SIL (Safety Integrity Level) and ATEX (Explosive Atmospheres) certified instrumentation such as that which we can offer at Envira.
