Indoor air quality monitoring system in public buildings

Home » Sectors » Indoor air quality monitoring system in public buildings

ENVIRA has developed a system for monitoring indoor air quality in public buildings. This solution provides greater certainty about the quality of the air we breathe and helps to make decisions about air renewal in indoor spaces such as administrative buildings, hospitals and educational centres, among others, in order to reduce the risks that polluting parameters pose to people’s wellbeing and health.

Composition of the indoor air quality monitoring solution

The solution consists of

  1. A network of Nanoenvi IAQ indoor air quality instruments with wireless sensors, adaptable to any building.
  2. Communication.
  3. IoT platform to identify the use of the collected data to generate alerts and notifications in case of events that may represent a risk situation.

* 3G/4G connectivity via an add-on device.

Why monitor the quality of indoor air?

The negative effects attributed to indoor air pollution include from light localized illnesses to more complex diseases, fostered by alterations in the hormonal homeostasis, that can become pathologies related to alterations at all levels of the endocrine system.

ENVIRA’s solution to monitor indoor air quality contributes to:

  • Reduce interactions and multiple expositions.
  • Prevent and detect possible diseases related to buildings (legionella or pneumonitis by hypersensitivity.
  • Reduce the cost of energy to conduct a more efficient strategy for air renewal.
  • Prevent allergic illnesses (rhinitis, asthma, alveolitis, etc.).
  • Avoid the sick building syndrome, where most people inside it suffer from allergic reactions such as sneezes; cough; nasal, ocular, throat or dermic irritation).
  • Reduce the impact on people with multiple chemical hypersensitivities.

Continuous monitoring

ENVIRA designs networks of equipment that can be tailored according to the needs and aesthetic requirements of the buildings, with mural devices for walls or desk devices. The solution developed informs about the state of physical factors such as:

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2).
  • Carbon monoxide (CO).
  • PM10 and PM2.5 particles.
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • RH.
  • Temperature
  • Atmospheric pressure.

All this is monitored in real-time to determine the potential presence of dangerous agents in public buildings and establish, from the data registered, improvement strategies that can have a positive effect on the comfort of the workers and users.

Communication modules

The following technologies are currently approved by ENVIRA (the 3G and 4G solution is provided by a complementary device):

Data display and analysis

The data collected by the sensors are transmitted to a platform for handling data, where you can receive and store data from the sensors, manage the users and warnings and data reports.

The analysis of air quality in public buildings gives as a result:

  • An improvement in work environments.
  • Application of improvements in the ventilation and air renewal strategy.
  • Less feeling of “heavy air” in closed areas.
  • Less risk of diseases or infections being spread by air.
  • Increase in the productivity and reduction of labor absenteeism at work.
  • Guarantee of a safe and healthy environment.

Warning systems

The solution for monitoring indoor air quality in public buildings can set up warnings according to the pollutants and critical factors in the works to be preserved.

Alarms to users can be sent by SMS messages (additional hardware or subscription to a messaging service is required) or by email.

Advantages

Open solution, integrable with external developments at any level (device, connectivity, CLOUD or user application).

An unlimited number of devices can be included in future extensions.

High-reliable and available data in real time.

Tailored system.

Creation of environmental data history.

Where can it be used?
