Oviedo. August 5, 2021. ENVIRA, a company specialized in advanced environmental monitoring and a leader in comprehensive automatic systems for monitoring environmental quality, air quality networks, and manufacture of devices with IoT technology, has expanded its presence in Canada through a strategic partner alliance with Yorkland Controls, a leading provider of control systems and solutions headquartered in Ontario. Yorkland Controls will offer from now the indoor air quality solution, Nanoenvi IAQ. This is a device that continuously monitors indoor air quality so that managers or owners of public spaces can make decisions to improve the health and well-being of people.
“ENVIRA smart sensors and technology provide IAQ monitoring technology for many applications such as the ability to integrate to a building’s ventilation equipment. The ability to use IAQ sensor information and act on it allows for the validation of air cleaning measures, ventilation equipment analytics, and improved wellbeing ”, says Gerry Cellucci, Vice President- Systems Solutions.
Why is it necessary to monitor indoor air quality?
Taking into account that people spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, breathing clean air is essential for health. The US Environmental Protection Agency has found that indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoors and the World Health Organization has warned that poor indoor air quality can cause short-term and long-term health risks.
Exposure to high levels of indoor air pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), can cause headaches, dry throat, eye irritation, and runny nose. Likewise, exposure to particulate matter (PM 2.5 and PM10) can also cause respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. All of these are symptoms associated with the well-known SBS (Sick Building Symptoms) or sick building syndrome.
Now buildings can achieve and maintain safe air levels with an indoor monitoring system. Nanoenvi® IAQ is an IoT device that indicates when the air quality is above or below the thresholds recommended or permitted by the corresponding current regulations.
Nanoenvi IAQ devices monitor the following parameters.
- Carbon dioxide (CO2).
- Carbon monoxide (CO).
- PM10 and PM2.5 particles.
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
- Relative Humidity (RH).
- Temperature.
- Atmospheric pressure.
Based on them, the device calculates an air quality index (AQI) that monitors the level of health and well-being in indoor spaces. Users will be able to know the quality of the air they breathe through color codes.
The possible values of the index move in the range 0-7, where:
- 7 optimum quality (blue LEDs).
- 4-6 good quality (green LEDs).
- 2-3 moderate quality (yellow LEDs).
- 0-1 poor quality (red LEDs).
