SENSORS FOR INDUSTRIAL COOLING

Pyxis Lab

Pyxis Lab’s smart sensors for monitoring the quality of industrial cooling water

Home » Pyxis Lab

Industrial cooling water circuits operate under demanding conditions: high temperatures, load variations, the presence of suspended solids and a constant risk of corrosion, fouling and microbiological proliferation. Keeping the quality of the cooling fluid under control is an operational and safety necessity.

Pyxis inline sensors, distributed by Envira, enable continuous, real-time monitoring of critical water parameters—TPSA, pH, ORP, oxidant, conductivity and turbidity—directly in the process line, without the need for sampling or manual analysis.

PTSA and Turbidity Sensors

PTSA (1,3,6,8-Pyrenetetrasulfonic acid) is an organic compound that acts as an inert fluorescent tracer for monitoring the precise dosage of corrosion inhibitors or scale inhibitors, primarily in cooling towers or reverse osmosis systems.

Turbidity, on the other hand, measures the loss of transparency in water due to the presence of suspended particles.

Continuous monitoring of PTSA and turbidity in cooling systems ensures that the water is clean and, at the same time, that the chemical treatment is correctly dosed.

ST-587SS Sensor

0–500ppb

This sensor for PTSA and turbidity monitoring is ideal for applications in data centres, enhanced cooling systems and water quality control. It is capable of handling critical systems such as condensers and high-tech cooling systems. It also features straightforward communication with DCS or PLC systems and a durable 316L stainless steel construction.

ST-500SS-T Sensor

0–200ppb

A sensor for monitoring PTSA levels whilst simultaneously compensating for interference from colour and turbidity, providing a more accurate dosing reading. Ideal for use in data centres. Constructed from 316L stainless steel, it is capable of withstanding high pressures of up to 290 psi.

ST-730SS Sensor

0.0-100.0NTU

Turbidity sensor for high-pressure and high-temperature applications. Offering the required resolution and accuracy in high-turbidity applications, this sensor is more robust and resistant to fouling. Constructed from 304 stainless steel, it is capable of operating at high pressures of up to 290 psi.

pH and ORP sensors

Maintaining a neutral or slightly alkaline pH (usually between 7.0 and 9.0) is essential to prevent corrosion or scale build-up in cooling circuits.

ST-710SS Sensor

0-14

A composite pH sensor designed to simplify installation in cooling water systems. It features an integrated transmitter and can be used in both 4–20 mA and RS-485 Modbus formats. The sensor’s flat pH bubble enhances its resistance to highly turbid water and contamination, whilst the extended salt bridge design with high binding capacity also ensures a significantly longer sensor lifespan.

ST-711SS Sensor

±1,500mV

The ORP composite sensor features an oversized platinum disc, which enhances its resistance to highly turbid water and contamination. The enlarged salt bridge design, with its high binding capacity, also ensures a significantly longer sensor lifespan with minimal maintenance. These devices are ideal for water that is difficult to measure. The electrode head is removable and replaceable.

ST-712SS Sensor

0-14 & ±1,500mV

A combined pH + ORP sensor designed with a salt bridge offering high binding capacity. They are constructed with a 304 stainless steel body and a removable, replaceable electrode head assembly. Each sensor comes with a six-foot cable fitted with an 8-pin quick-connect adapter, as well as a 1.5-foot extension cable with an 8-pin adapter for quick installation and replacement.

Dissolved Oxygen and Conductivity Sensors

Measuring dissolved oxygen (DO) and water conductivity in data centres is essential for optimising cooling tower systems, preventing corrosion or scaling, ensuring energy efficiency and equipment integrity, and preventing water degradation.

ST-772 Sensor

0.004–20mg/L

Optical luminescent dissolved oxygen (DO) sensors based on the fluorescence quenching principle to determine the dissolved oxygen content in water. They utilise blue/red light detection technology with excitation and reference light sources to provide a wide detection range. The sensor also incorporates temperature and pressure sensors to compensate for dissolved oxygen measurements based on ambient conditions.

ST-72X Sensor

0.02µS/cm

Industrial-grade ultra-low conductivity in-line sensors designed for pure, ultrapure and deionised water applications. This smart sensor supports both digital and analogue signal outputs. They are easy to install thanks to their 3/4" MNPT thread and are constructed with a Hastelloy electrode tip and a stainless steel body.

CR-300 Sensor

0.001–10MPY

Sensors for measuring general and localised corrosion rates based on the system’s metallurgy. The LPR reading represents a real-time electrochemical measurement of corrosion, and the measurements collected by the device are instantaneous and reflect the current condition.
