Maintenance and calibration of water analysis systems

Home » Services » Maintenance and calibration of water analysis systems

In water management, an inaccurate reading can have serious consequences, including environmental non-compliance, health risks and production downtime. Our maintenance and calibration service for water quality analysers ensures maximum reliability of sensors and measuring equipment, operating under strict quality and traceability standards.

What our service includes

We have developed a comprehensive action plan divided into three key pillars, with the aim of ensuring the smooth operation of the entire water analysis line

Water maintenance and calibration system

Regular preventive maintenance visits

We carry out visual inspections and critical operational tasks to prevent measurement drifts and premature wear:

  • Thorough cleaning: filters, measuring chambers, sensors and gauges.
  • Replacement of consumables (refilling): replenishment of chemical reagents, electrolytic solutions and standard reagents.
  • Inspection of physical condition: checking for leaks, electrical connections and venting of equipment.

In Situ Calibration and Verification using Reference Standards

To minimise downtime and ensure that the sensors respond accurately to actual process conditions, we carry out the entire in situ calibration service directly on site (with the exception of flow rate calibration, which requires the equipment to be sent to a laboratory).

We adjust the analysers’ measurement curves using reference equipment with metrological traceability, ensuring maximum reliability both in terms of water quality analytical parameters and in the control of the plant’s inlet and outlet flow rates.

Analytical Parameter Reference Standard / Reference Method Common Applications
pH and Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) Certified buffer solutions (NIST) WTP, WWTP and Industry
Turbidity Formazine standards / Polymer standards Drinking water and effluent monitoring
Electrical Conductivity Certified KCl conductivity standard solutions Salinity and demineralisation control
Free / Total Chlorine Photometric comparison (DPD method) Disinfection in water treatment works and distribution networks
Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Saturated air calibration / Zero solution Biological reactors (WWTPs)
Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Potassium Phthalate (KHP) standards Process water and industrial effluents

Maintenance of Auxiliary Equipment

Reliable analysis depends on the sample reaching the sensor in optimal condition.

For this reason, our maintenance service also covers the peripheral infrastructure:

  • Inspection and servicing of the sampling pump
  • Cleaning and maintenance of sampling chambers
  • Maintenance, flushing and descaling of pipes and sample transfer lines
Speed and accuracy in water analysis

Speed and accuracy in water analysis

Our comprehensive preventive maintenance service ensures maximum reliability of control panels and tailors maintenance work to the specific needs of the plant.

Furthermore, incidents will be solved in less than 2 hours*. * Depending on the subscribed service.

Maintenance frequencies tailored to each water facility

Not all water is the same, so maintenance should not be standardised either. The organic load, salinity, presence of suspended solids and the chemical aggressiveness of the environment determine the critical frequency of our interventions.

As the nature of the environment defines and influences the frequency of calibration and maintenance, we design action plans with specific frequencies tailored to the nature of the plant in order to optimise operating costs and ensure maximum data availability.
Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs)
In these plants, the challenge lies in controlling the high levels of organic matter, fats, microorganisms and suspended solids, which cause rapid fouling (biofouling and clogging).

Therefore, a thorough cleaning of filters, probes, chambers, sample lines and critical sensors (such as those for dissolved oxygen, turbidity and pH) must be carried out to prevent deviations in the biological reactors and ensure continuous compliance with discharge limits.

Recommended frequency: fortnightly or monthly.
Drinking Water Treatment Plants (DWTP)
At water treatment works, strict control of sanitary parameters in clean water samples is essential, where the stability of the readings is the top priority.

High-precision calibration of free/total chlorine analysers (DPD method), turbidity meters and pH metres using certified standard solutions ensures the data traceability required by control systems.

Recommended frequency: monthly, fortnightly or quarterly depending on criticality and manufacturer.
Seawater Desalination Plants (SDPs)
Extreme salinity, high pressure and the presence of calcareous and biological scale resulting from seawater mean that specific chemical cleaning processes to remove salts from sensors are critical, as are checks on the treatment train and the permeate.

It is also essential to carry out preventive maintenance on auxiliary systems such as intake pumps and sumps exposed to the marine environment.

Recommended frequency: high, normally fortnightly or monthly depending on fouling and criticality.
Process and industrial water
In industry, the control of biocides in cooling towers is key to preventing health risks (Legionella), whilst in boilers that use ultrapure water, even the slightest contamination can cause catastrophic corrosion.

This is why rigorous calibration using very low-conductivity standards is necessary, along with continuous monitoring of dissolved oxygen sensors and cooling sensors during periods of peak thermal demand.

Recommended frequency: monthly during continuous operation, with more frequent checks during periods of higher thermal load or health risk.
Water reclamation and reuse plants
We maintain the instrumentation and control systems associated with tertiary treatment and reclaimed water, ensuring reliable readings and stable operation of the system.

The service includes cleaning, checking, replacing reagents and calibrating measuring equipment, as well as maintaining the auxiliary components linked to the disinfection process and water quality control.

Recommended frequency: periodic and tailored to the criticality of the system, normally monthly or in accordance with the operational plan.
