ENVIRA and Samaviya Technologies will deliver indoor air quality monitoring solutions in Pakistan

Published on 16 November, 2021

Corporate News, Indoor air quality,

ENVIRA, a company specialized in advanced environmental monitoring and a leader in comprehensive automatic systems for monitoring environmental quality, air quality networks, and manufacture of devices with IoT technology, has expanded its presence in Pakistan signing a strategic partnership with Samaviya Technologies.  From now, the company will offer the indoor air quality monitoring solution Nanoenvi IAQ. This is a device that continuously monitors indoor air quality so that building managers can make decisions to improve the health and well-being of people.

Awareness of indoor air quality in Pakistan

Considering that people spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, breathing clean air is essential for health. The US Environmental Protection Agency has found that indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoors, and the World Health Organization has warned that poor indoor air quality can cause short-term and long-term health risks.

Exposure to high levels of indoor air pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), can cause headaches, dry throat, eye irritation, and runny nose. Likewise, exposure to particulate matter (PM 2.5 and PM10) can also cause respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. All of these are symptoms associated with the well-known SBS (Sick Building Symptoms) or sick building syndrome.

Now buildings can achieve and maintain safe air levels with an indoor monitoring system. Nanoenvi® IAQ is an IoT device that indicates when the air quality is above or below the thresholds recommended or permitted by the corresponding current regulations.

Nanoenvi IAQ devices monitor the following parameters.

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2).
  • Carbon monoxide (CO).
  • PM10 and PM2.5 particles.
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Relative Humidity (RH).
  • Temperature
  • Atmospheric pressure.
  • RH

Based on them, the device calculates an air quality index (AQI) that monitors the level of health and well-being in indoor spaces. Users will be able to know the quality of the air they breathe through color codes.

The possible values of the index move in the range 0-7, where:

  • 7 optimum quality (blue LEDs).
  • 4-6 good quality (green LEDs).
  • 2-3 moderate quality (yellow LEDs).
  • 0-1 poor quality (red LEDs).

Currently, Samaviya Technologies is testing indoor air quality with NIH (National Institution of Health) and NCOC (National Command and Control Center) to implement the Indoor air quality solution to avoid COVID transmission.

Air quality and climate change in Pakistan

Awareness about the importance of outdoor air quality in Pakistan has increased more and more in recent years. This was revealed a few weeks ago by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, at the Middle East Green Initiative Summit in Riyadh. At the even he highlighted the action Pakistan is taking to combat climate change and emissions, including planting billions of trees and converting coal projects to hydroelectricity. At the same time, the government is urging factories to install new technologies to lower air pollution.

Air pollution is a major problem confronting Pakistan, with cities like Lahore and Karachi ranking among the most polluted worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is responsible for millions of deaths worldwide every year. Investing in advanced technologies such as Nanoenvi is key to guaranteeing a cleaner and greener future.
